Joan Donaldson, Field Director, Supporting Jordan’s Education (SJE), Amman, Jordan
With more than 20 years experience in education, private sector development and governance, Joan Donaldson has managed large, multi-year, international development projects in Jordan, Malawi and the Philippines. Currently the Field Director for the Supporting Jordan’s Education Project based in Amman, Joan is assisting the Jordanian Ministry of Education with its overarching Education Reform for the Knowledge Economy initiative (ERfKE II). Employing participatory and appreciative methodologies, her approach to project management is to mobilize people, technology and resources to achieve sustainable, systemic change. On the Strengthening Capacity in Basic Education in Western China project, for example, Joan supported the development of distance education systems to support collaborative professional development for thousands of teachers working in remote schools in the poorest regions of Western China. In the Philippines, she assisted the Government of the Philippines to diversify its economy, and create meaningful jobs for both men and women, through the development of small- and medium-sized enterprises on the CIDA funded Private Enterprise Accelerated Resoureces Linkages Project Phase 2 (PEARL2). As Project Director of the Governance Assistance Project (GAP) she contributed to significant public sector reform in Malawi through strategic planning, leadership development and policy development initiatives. Experienced at all stages of the results-based management cycle from project planning and implementation to monitoring, evaluation and reporting, Joan holds a B.Ed and an MBA, both from the University of Calgary.
