Dr. Simon Azariah, Country Director, Canada-Pakistan HIV/AIDS Surveillance Project (HASP), Pakistan
Dr. Simon Azariah is a medical doctor with an MBA and a Master’s in Health Management, Planning and Policy. He is currently the country director of the Canada-Pakistan HIV/AIDS Surveillance Project (HASP) and was the project director of the Systems-Oriented Health Investment Program based in Lahore, Pakistan. He has extensive experience as a project manager, including with CIDA, DFID, GTZ and UN organizations. Dr. Azariah’s work in Pakistan includes public health management at the hospital level, directing of and teaching at academic institutions, health consulting, and clinical work in surgery and general practice. He has extensive experience providing training in HIV/AIDS, harm reduction, PHC, community development, MIS and decentralized health management to health workers, hospital managers, district health authorities, NGO staff, and drug control officers. Dr. Azariah also has considerable regional and international experience, having completed consultancies in health management, HIV/AIDS and harm reduction in Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Bangladesh, Thailand (for Asia-Pacific) and Sri Lanka on behalf of UN agencies, NGOs and various donors.
