Debra Rasmussen, Agricultural Economist
Debra Rasmussen is an agricultural economist with more than 19 years of experience in Asia, Latin America, Africa and North America. Her work includes enterprise development, policy analysis, strategic planning, marketing, farm management, extension systems, technology transfer and adaptive research applied to rural development and poverty alleviation, livestock and crop production, nomadic pasturalism, the feed industry, agricultural processing, food safety and corporate social responsibility. Debra uses participatory and appreciative methodologies in fieldwork, project design, planning, implementation and monitoring. She has expertise in capacity building and social dimensions, frequently working with minority groups and women in remote regions of Mongolia, Tibet and Inner Mongolia. Her work frequently involves private sector development and consortiums of foreign and domestic industry partners. She has worked proactively with Canadian firms to develop corporate social responsibility programs that promote poverty reduction and sustainable rural development through viable agricultural enterprises.
