Catherine Hakim, Field Manager, Nigeria College/School of Health Technology and Primary Health Care Development Project, Nigeria
Originally trained as a nurse, Catherine has managed a range of health programs for more than 25 years. Currently, she manages a multi-year School of Health Technology and Primary Health Care Development Project in Nigeria. She has overseen the design, implementation, management, monitoring and evaluation of sexual and reproductive health programs in Pakistan, Brazil, El Salvador, Jamaica and Colombia. She worked for many years in Sudan, managing programs for Maternal and Child Health, National Control of Diarrheal Disease, National Baby Friendly Hospital Initiatives and National Acute Respiratory Infection. She contributed to the write up of the situational analysis of women and children in Sudan and the Sudan Country Strategy Paper and Master Plan of Operation for 1997–2001. Catherine also participated in the design and development of a Safe Motherhood Initiative for the Middle East and North Africa. In Canada, Catherine has managed sexual and reproductive health programs and health services delivery and coordinated a program for women’s health research. She contributed to the Action Plan for Women’s Health in Manitoba and Saskatchewan and other research on women’s health issues. Catherine has an MEd in Primary Health Care from the University of Manchester.
