South Asia Projects

 

Bhutan, Strengthening Supports to Education (in association with UNB): January 2003–December 2003

The University of New Brunswick, in collaboration with the Royal Government of Bhutan, implemented a five-year development project to support Bhutan's educational reform process and strengthen the education system through the sustainable development of human resources. The purpose was to increase the Ministry of Education's capacity to provide improved, gender-sensitive curriculum, leadership and instructional delivery in primary and secondary English language, primary mathematics, engineering and ICT. Agriteam was contracted by UNB to help develop the concept paper and lead the preparation of the Project Implementation Plan. Agriteam staff developed and delivered participatory workshops in Canada and Bhutan for UNB educators and Bhutanese counterparts in results-based management, PIP and indicator development.

 

Bangladesh, Bangladesh Health and Population Reform Program (BHPRP) CIDA: January 1995–January 2003

Agriteam was responsible for overseeing CIDA's contribution to a large-scale, multi-donor sector-wide approach (SWAp) program to improve implementation of health sector reforms service delivery throughout Bangladesh. BHPRP took a systems-oriented approach with components focusing on strategic human resource planning; strengthening contraceptive procurement practices; improving the quality and client-friendliness of reproductive health service delivery; increasing public demand for reproductive health services through social mobilization; and monitoring the progress of reforms, including through client satisfaction surveys. BHPRP worked directly with the Bangladesh Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, as well as with local and international NGOs, academic institutions and pharmaceutical companies. BHPRP project components explicitly promoted women's health and gender equality. The CIDA-funded portion of the project was Canada's largest single health project and the overall project is the largest of its kind in the world, in excess of £1.5 billion.

 

India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Combating Trafficking of Women and Children in South Asia: January 2001–January 2002

The project worked in Bangladesh, India and Nepal to improve the understanding and prevention of the trafficking of women and children. Specifically, it supported research and documentation, national and sub-regional policy, exchange programs for governments and NGOs, and a sub-regional anti-trafficking conference.

 

India, Facilitation of Private Sector Development Project (CIDA): January 1996–January 2002

In association with JPS Associates, we provided support to private sector development in four of India's industrial sectors: oil and gas, energy, telecommunications and financial services.

 

Nepal, Monitoring of the Water and Energy Commission Secretariat Institutional Development Project: January 1997–January 2001

Monitoring of the Water and Energy Commission Secretariat (WECS) Institutional Development Project (WIDP), Nepal (CIDA): Monitoring an institutional development project to increase Nepal's capacity to plan and develop its water and energy sectors in an environmentally and socially sustainable manner in order to promote economic growth.

 

Sri Lanka, Water Resources Assessment, Sri Lanka: January 1998–January 1999

Agriteam designed a system to protect environmental and socio-cultural water requirements in river basin planning.

 

Sri Lanka, Institutional Strengthening for Comprehensive Water Resources Management, Sri Lanka (ADB): January 1998–January 1999

Sector: Governance and Public Sector Reform
Region: South Asia

Supported the Government of Sri Lanka in establishing an institutional framework for water sector operations and improved water resources management to support sustainable socio-economic development.

 

India, India Oilseeds Project Evaluation (CIDA): January 1999–January 1999

Agriteam provided an agricultural economist and gender equality specialist to conduct an end-of-project evaluation.
