The goal of SOHIP is to improve the quality of primary health care, especially for the female population, and to increase access to health services by poor women and men. Some of the key planned activities will be:
- Developing training materials/modules and training of trainers to strengthen the health promotion and health education training of staff including supervisors, outreach workers, nurses and health visitors.
- Training district-level and provincial staff on management systems strengthening, including on issues of evidence-based planning, community consultation, supportive supervision and gender-based analysis.
- Organizing semi-annual Health Forums that allow district health managers to exchange information, ideas and innovations across districts.
- Post-graduate training for District Health Management Diploma.
- Facilitating an annual Punjab district health datasheet with comparative indicators of performance to motivate districts to strengthen services and system improvements.
- Supporting policy-relevant research according to the priorities of the Department of Health.
- Developing pilot models and tools that facilitate community involvement in planning, managing and/or monitoring local health services.
- Improving the quality of health management systems as perceived by provincial and district health sector managers and district governments.

The CSR is a tightly focused education initiative designed to complement larger efforts supporting Bangladesh's education reform agenda. The project works with the Bangladesh Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education, Ministry of Education, and provides teaching and learning support materials to teachers of mathematics and English in 100 pilot junior secondary schools. These teachers receive professional development in subject-area knowledge and pedagogic practices through workshops designed and delivered by Canadian and Bangladeshi specialists. The project also provides targeted training opportunities for head teachers and members of school management committees.

Agriteam is the lead firm in a consortium that also includes the University of Manitoba and ProAction: Partners for Community Health. The project will enhance the capacity of the Government of Pakistan to implement an effective Second Generation Surveillance (SGS) System for HIV/AIDS. HASP is a capacity building project that involves working with the National AIDS Control Program (NACP), provincial AIDS Control Programs (PACPs) and other stakeholders including NGOs, Research Institutes and laboratories to develop a sustainable SGS system for HIV/AIDS. HASP will put in place an effective SGS system that will identify population sub-groups at increased risk for HIV and other Sexually Transmitted Infections; provide timely warning of sudden changes in levels or distribution of HIV or of risk behaviours in those population sub-groups; enable planners to understand the potential routes through which HIV can spread from high risk groups to the general population.

Agriteam worked with CIDA and the Public Health Agency of Canada to plan the implementation of the Canada-Asia Regional Emerging Infections Diseases (CAREID) Project. CAREID is intended to reduce the threat of Emerging Infectious Diseases (EIDs) such as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and Avian Influenza (AI) to human security, regional stability, and sustainable development in South East Asia and China. Agriteam staff developed workshop methodology, and facilitated workshops in five countries.

This project improved the profitability of the poultry industry and its contribution to poverty reduction and food security in rural areas of Bangladesh by increasing the capacity of the poultry feed industry, laboratory testing, extension services and the management capacity of small, medium and large poultry producers. Poultry management and feed utilization was improved through the development of training materials and skills building for 580 formal and non-formal extension workers and 7250 farmers. Feedmills received design assistance, consulting advice and training in facilities management, least-cost feed formation and poultry nutrition. The National Animal Nutrition Lab was upgraded to international standards and successfully assures its standards through participation in an international round-robin testing system. Project personnel worked with the government to draft a national Animal Feed Act which has been signed off by government and submitted to the law ministry.

Agriteam managed this project to support and promote human rights for women, especially in Bangladesh's garment sector by bringing together NGO and government actors together in discussions regarding women's labour rights, codes of conduct and garment sector policy. We built the capacity of Bangladeshi NGO to advocate for the integration of gender equality concerns into government planning and programs.

The University of New Brunswick, in collaboration with the Royal Government of Bhutan, implemented a five-year development project to support Bhutan's educational reform process and strengthen the education system through the sustainable development of human resources. The purpose was to increase the Ministry of Education's capacity to provide improved, gender-sensitive curriculum, leadership and instructional delivery in primary and secondary English language, primary mathematics, engineering and ICT. Agriteam was contracted by UNB to help develop the concept paper and lead the preparation of the Project Implementation Plan. Agriteam staff developed and delivered participatory workshops in Canada and Bhutan for UNB educators and Bhutanese counterparts in results-based management, PIP and indicator development.

Agriteam was responsible for overseeing CIDA's contribution to a large-scale, multi-donor sector-wide approach (SWAp) program to improve implementation of health sector reforms service delivery throughout Bangladesh. BHPRP took a systems-oriented approach with components focusing on strategic human resource planning; strengthening contraceptive procurement practices; improving the quality and client-friendliness of reproductive health service delivery; increasing public demand for reproductive health services through social mobilization; and monitoring the progress of reforms, including through client satisfaction surveys. BHPRP worked directly with the Bangladesh Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, as well as with local and international NGOs, academic institutions and pharmaceutical companies. BHPRP project components explicitly promoted women's health and gender equality. The CIDA-funded portion of the project was Canada's largest single health project and the overall project is the largest of its kind in the world, in excess of £1.5 billion.

The project worked in Bangladesh, India and Nepal to improve the understanding and prevention of the trafficking of women and children. Specifically, it supported research and documentation, national and sub-regional policy, exchange programs for governments and NGOs, and a sub-regional anti-trafficking conference.
