Bangladesh, Bangladesh Health and Population Reform Program (BHPRP) CIDA: January 1995–January 2003
Sector: Health and Population
Region: South Asia
Agriteam was responsible for overseeing CIDA's contribution to a large-scale, multi-donor sector-wide approach (SWAp) program to improve implementation of health sector reforms service delivery throughout Bangladesh. BHPRP took a systems-oriented approach with components focusing on strategic human resource planning; strengthening contraceptive procurement practices; improving the quality and client-friendliness of reproductive health service delivery; increasing public demand for reproductive health services through social mobilization; and monitoring the progress of reforms, including through client satisfaction surveys. BHPRP worked directly with the Bangladesh Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, as well as with local and international NGOs, academic institutions and pharmaceutical companies. BHPRP project components explicitly promoted women's health and gender equality. The CIDA-funded portion of the project was Canada's largest single health project and the overall project is the largest of its kind in the world, in excess of £1.5 billion.
