Agriteam designed and developed a course to introduce small- to medium-sized agrifood producers to the export marketing process. The course was designed to be delivered in eight modules over an eight-month period, and combined home study with one-day workshops. Materials for each module included a textbook, participant's workshop guide, instructor's guide and workplace assignments, as well as a comprehensive bibliography, list of government and industry contacts, guide to government assistance programs and other resource material. Agriteam managed the project and coordinated a team of 10 curriculum development specialists with expertise in agricultural economics, agrifood export markets, international finance, business planning, international trade regulations and adult education.

The objective was to assist Uruguayan farm managers in the upgrading of their livestock management skills by teaching them intensive livestock management techniques successfully used in Alberta, a Canadian leader in livestock production. Agriteam managed a comprehensive training program in dairy and beef cattle management which included institutional courses of study in Canada, individualized curriculum, practical attachments on Alberta farms, and study tours of Canadian agricultural institutions, cooperatives, agro-processing facilities, research institutions and federal and provincial government departments and agencies. Twenty farm manager trainees from Uruguay were placed on selected farms in Alberta for six months each year for two years to receive hands-on training. The program emphasized the practical aspects of dairy and beef management, and a large part of the training involved the trainees working alongside their Canadian farmer-trainers learning the duties normally carried out on Alberta farms.
