The Improving Basic Education Project (IBEP, PROMEB in Spanish) will strengthen basic education in Peru by developing the capacity of educational administrators and service providers in the region of Piura. The project will focus on four key components: (1) strengthen the institutional capacity and human resources of basic education; (2) develop and facilitate the implementation of educational programs; (3) coordinate project activities in rural environments; and (4) mainstream gender and participation into the project. It aims to improve access and quality of preschool and primary education for rural children, and to produce a model for basic education in Piura that can be reproduced in other parts of the country. The project will work with the Dirección Regional de Educación (DRE), the regional arm of the Ministry of Education (MED), and the Agentes de Desarrollo Educativo and Coordinaciones Educativas, intermediary organizations (OIs) that work in support of the DRE.

We provided gender equity advisory services to the Environmental Services Association of Alberta, the CEA for the project. The overall project is strengthening the efficiency and capacity of companies in the Latin American petroleum sector to develop and implement environmental protection technologies.

Market Research and Development for Muskox Meat and Quiviuq (Inuvialuit Regional Corporation, N.W.T.) conducted international market research, identified potential buyers, and negotiated the first large-scale production and marketing of muskox meat and fibre, as part of a program to ensure sustainable management of the Inuvialuit muskox herd.

We provided gender equity and social dimensions advisory services to the Canadian Energy Research Institute (CERI) on a project to improve the institutional capacity of the Colombian public sector in energy, mining and environmental protection.

For CIDA (in association with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Canadian Grain Commission, Canada Grains Council and Saskatchewan Wheat Pool), Agriteam supported the creation of a regional agricultural commodity exchange among five Central American countries. We provided training in marketing and technical services to enable effective commodity trading.
