Russia, Evaluation of Two Agriculture Sector Projects in the Russian Federation (DFAIT): January 1994–December 1994

Agriteam evaluated and compared two technical assistance projects in the agriculture sector of the Russian Federation, identifying strengths and weaknesses in the projects' design, efficiency, effectiveness, impact and sustainability.

 

Philippines, Agrarian Reform Communities (ARC) Project, Philippines (World Bank): January 1994–December 1994

Region: South East Asia and Pacific

Identified areas for strengthening the country's agrarian reform communities through increased production and income in agriculture and rural industry. Identified opportunities for enhancing social and economic benefits to the rural poor.

 

Multiple Countries, Animal Health and Production Information System for ASEAN (CIDA INC): January 1993–January 1994

Region: South East Asia and Pacific

Prepared a feasibility study and designed a regional project for an animal health and production information system that integrated the national requirements of each member country and addressed the constraints related to regional issues, trade and access to international markets for livestock and livestock products.

 

Uruguay, Uruguay Livestock Management Training Program, Government of Uruguay/World Bank: January 1992–December 1993

The objective was to assist Uruguayan farm managers in the upgrading of their livestock management skills by teaching them intensive livestock management techniques successfully used in Alberta, a Canadian leader in livestock production. Agriteam managed a comprehensive training program in dairy and beef cattle management which included institutional courses of study in Canada, individualized curriculum, practical attachments on Alberta farms, and study tours of Canadian agricultural institutions, cooperatives, agro-processing facilities, research institutions and federal and provincial government departments and agencies. Twenty farm manager trainees from Uruguay were placed on selected farms in Alberta for six months each year for two years to receive hands-on training. The program emphasized the practical aspects of dairy and beef management, and a large part of the training involved the trainees working alongside their Canadian farmer-trainers learning the duties normally carried out on Alberta farms.

 

India, Uttar Pradesh Sodic Lands Reclamation Project, India (World Bank): January 1993–December 1993

Assisted the World Bank in preparing a project for reclaming of saline and sodic land in Northern India.

 

Mongolia, Mongolian Agricultural Development Project (World Bank): January 1993–December 1993

Sector: Agriculture and Agribusiness
Region: North and Central Asia

Identified reasons for the rapid decline in the Mongolian grain sector after 1990 and developed ways to arrest this decline by focussing on policy changes and new investments in research and grain farm assets.

 

Bangladesh, Strengthening the Food Planning and Monitoring Unit of the Ministry of Food, Bangladesh (ADB): January 1992–December 1992

Assisted the Bangladesh Ministry of Food to develop food policies to better serve the nutritional needs of the population.

 

Nigeria, Sokoto Agricultural and Community Development Project, Nigeria (World Bank/IFAD): January 1991–January 1992

Region: Sub-Saharan Africa

Appraised a rural development project to improve the welfare of rural poor through better dryland and irrigated farming systems and the conservation of agricultural resources through community efforts.

 

Canada, Feasibility of a Multi-Species Abattoir for the Yukon: January 1991–December 1991

Region: Americas and the Caribbean

Assessed the feasibility of constructing a multi-species abattoir capable of providing 50 percent of the Yukon's consumption requirements.

 

Tanzania, Tanzania-Canada Wheat Programme, Issues Analysis Component, Phase III (CIDA): January 1989–January 1991

Sector: Agriculture and Agribusiness
Region: Sub-Saharan Africa

Analyzed a wide range of agricultural issues linked to wheat production at the 70 000 ha Hanang Farms Complex and the development of the Hanang region.
