Agriteam has been working with the Ukrainian Ministry of Justice over the last eight years through the Ukraine Juvenile Justice Reform Project (UJJRP) funded by Global Affairs Canada ($10.4M) to incorporate international standards into the youth justice system within the country.

In February 2017, Ukraine’s fifth Youth Probation Centre was officially opened in Kyiv, providing a place for the provision of comprehensive services to youth who have come into conflict with the law. Mr. Pavlo Petrenko, Minister of Justice of Ukraine, Mr. Roman Waschuk, Ambassador of Canada to Ukraine, Mr. Denis Chernishov, Deputy Minister of Justice of Ukraine, Mr. Mykola Kuleba, Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for Children’s Rights and Ms. Tawnia Sanford Ammar, Agriteam Country Director to Ukraine officially opened the center. Representatives of other Ministries, international and non-governmental agencies working in the area of child’s rights protection also took part in the event. During the official launch, guests had an opportunity to learn about the results of implementing UJJRP, meet with juvenile clients and their parents, and take tours of the new probation centre.
