Legal and Judicial Reform
In recent years, Agriteam has increasingly become involved in legal and judicial reform projects. In consortium with partners, we have been managing the CIDA-funded Judicial Development and Grassroots Engagement (JUDGE) Project in Vietnam since 2006, and since late 2007, the CIDA-funded Juvenile Justice Reform Project in Ukraine. To ensure the most appropriate management and technical expertise is provided, we implement these projects through project managers with legal backgrounds, and form consortia or other partnerships with partner agencies and technical experts experienced in the field of law.
Our expertise in implementing legal and judicial reform projects includes:
- providing advice and support to government partners, such as justice ministries and the judiciary, for leading multi-stakeholder public policy dialogue involving all relevant public sector and non-governmental stakeholders
- creating opportunities for information sharing and learning about similar reform experiences and best practices in Canada or internationally to support informed policy-making
- identifying the technical experts and providing the necessary advisory services for developing strategic directions, policies and related legal and regulatory frameworks to support agreed-upon reforms, and ensuring these accord with international legal and human rights standards
- supporting the design of training plans and materials, as well as delivery of skills training to partners, including the judiciary, other legal professionals and extra-judicial service providers
