Environment
Agriteam is committed to practices that minimize the amount of stress put on the environment. We provide support at the institutional, private and community levels toward this end. Our CIDA-funded initiatives are subject to the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (CEAA). Our experienced environmental specialists ensure compliance by developing Environmental Management Plans (EMP) and integrating environmental indicators into performance measurement frameworks.
We have developed a very successful Environmental Mainstreaming Toolkit that helps project staff integrate environmental sustainability into all project activities, and our project offices apply environmentally sustainable policies and practices.
Some of our projects are specifically focused on environmental management. In our Inner Mongolia Biodiversity Protection and Community Development Project, we built capacity in protected area management at both community and government levels. The project helped address conflicting natural resource priorities within and between various government bureaus and between the Nature Reserves and the resident populations.
In our Tibet Basic Human Needs Project, we integrated environmental awareness into all training activities, promoted community awareness of environmental issues and provided training in environmental impact assessment to township personnel. We conducted environmental assessments for health clinics and water systems and trained local environmental specialists in EIA methodology.
